I don't have enough data yet
If your brain is currently replaying something you said earlier today and confidently concluding you messed it up, you're not alone.
Sent as Human AF Weekly, the Chaos Dispatch's earlier name, under the subject "Your Human AF Weekly-ish Newsletter", before the book was called Built For Chaos. Project updates that no longer apply are left out.
Quick check-in.
If your brain is currently replaying something you said earlier today and confidently concluding you messed it up, you're not alone. This is a very common brain move.
This happened to me this morning.
No response yet. No actual signal.
And still... my brain was already like, "Yep. That was bad."
Here's the thing I keep noticing:
My brain hates unfinished stories. Silence feels loud. So it fills in the gaps as fast as possible and it usually doesn't pick the most generous explanation.
We're not talking intuition. We're talking pattern-completion under stress.
One thing that helps (sometimes)
Before I react, spiral, or send a follow-up I'll regret, I try to add one sentence:
"I don't have enough data yet."
Not to shut the feeling down. Just to pause the verdict.
The feeling still counts. It just doesn't get to be judge and jury.
TL;DR
- Your feelings are real
- Your conclusions might be early
- Pausing isn't ignoring - it's buying clarity
Stay Authentically Focused,
Matt
P.S. If today felt heavier than it should have, nothing's wrong with you. Your brain just worked overtime.
